Most weapons are capable of 1 to 3 normal attacks and there are many ways to combine them. For instance, you could use A alone, A+C, B+C, etc. There are basically two types of weapons, strength weapons and high hit-rate weapons. Strength weapons are powerful but only capable of a few attacks, while weapons that have high hit-rates are capable of multiple attacks. There are advantages and disadvantages to both kinds of weapons, so it is handy to have the members of your party carry both kinds of weapons. Watch the Special Attack Gauge in the lower left corner of the screen and you will see that it rises when you hit the enemy. When it reaches 100% you can launch a special attack. When you are in the special attack mode strike quickly!! The best advice I can give you at this point is to push the button as fast as you can! The charge turn（CT）value rises when you launch a special attack or magic. CT falls during the turn and you will be able to launch another special attack or magic attack when it reaches 0. While special attacks and magic are powerful, they cannot be used in rapid succession. When the enemy is hurt it is temporarily defenseless. If you attack and enemy in this condition your attack will always land a hit. This kind of continuous HIT is called a “Combo”. If your companions attack in combination or if an individual continues to attack with a normal attack, then HIT numbers will go up quickly. In other words, when in Combo status, after the first attack scores a hit, all subsequent attacks are guaranteed to score hits. Attacks that are spread out can be avoided, but Combo results can be awesome since it is not possible to evade them. The Special Attack Gauge rises with normal attacks. However the gauge will fall if a Combo is halted. Combos are essential in setting up special attacks. Also, if the enemy is still alive after a special attack has ended, another character can attack, so long as the special attack gauge has not reached 100%. Remember this point and you'll be happy you did. You can chose the order in which to use your normal attacks. Go to the Camp screen to make those decisions. Think about how you want to conduct a combination attack. Your best bet is to decide on a course of action ahead of time. Basically, the strength of a special attack is determined by the character's ATK, but it will also increase depending on the number of HITs. If 50 HITs have landed during a special attack, then power will increase 50%. However, a Combo is halted in special attack mode after a certain period of time has elapsed, so be careful. Of course, even if the combo has been halted, your special attack will still score a guaranteed HIT. When your attack scores a hit, two types of gems can appear, depending on the circumstances. The first is a blue gem called a Magic Crystal. When you score a HIT on your enemy in mid-air, you will receive one and your experience points will be revised upwards. You will get a 5% bonus for each one, so they're great! If you collect 20 your experience points will double! The second type of gem is purple and is called a Purple Gem. You get this one when your attack scores a hit on the enemy on the ground. This gem restores CT once. Normally, CT is restored after each turn, but if you store up Purple Gems you will be able to launch special attacks more quickly. You can always see how much stamina your enemy has by looking at the gauge. I should probably talk about whipping dead horses(？) An “OVER ATTACK” warning will come on screen if you continue to attack even though your enemy's stamina is at 0. In other words you are over-doing it. Continuing to attack a dead enemy is a waste of time and energy. Well, of course there are some plusses in attacking even though stamina is 0. If the first attack is countered, the second hit will always be countered when you go for combo timing. This is called “Combo Guard”, and a “Combo Guard” warning will appear on the screen. If you delay your timing in pushing the button, then you will no longer have Combo Hits, but then the Combo Guard will not go into effect. Understand？ It is essential that your first hit lands. When the Special Attack Gauge reaches 100% you can let loose a powerful Special Attack. The amount the gauge increases for each attack is set, so the combination of characters in your party is extremely important. The Special Attack Gauge also increases when special attacks land. So when you finish a special attack, if the gauge reads 100% you can start a new special attack! This is called the Special Attack Link. Since a party has 4 members, it is possible to continue with as many as 4 Special Attack Links. However, while you are in the Special Attack Mode, the green bar meter continues to fall and when it reaches 0 the mode will end・・・. Actually this green bar meter corresponds to the numbers on the Special Attack Gauge. This means that the Special Attack Gauge value is different at the end of a special attack mode, depending on whether the buttons were pushed quickly or slowly. Theoretically, if timing is perfect, the special attack gauge will already be at 100% when the special attack is launched. However, in actuality, even if timing is perfect, it doesn't work this way since points are revised downward by an amount that is predetermined. The point loss is greater with each continuation so that the loss on a 2nd continuation is greater than it was the first time and it is greater if there is a 3rd continuation. Loss with the first continuation is 20%, 40% with the 2nd and 60% with the third. In other words, if timing is perfect on the first special attack the gauge will need to be at 20 to be able to continue with a second attack. However, to continue for a fourth attack the gauge would need to be at 60. So in Special Attack Links the order of the special attack is important. So, now you see that basically there are 3 attack methods depending on your purposes. They're based on the elements listed above. The first is fighting to defeat an enemy. The special attack is at the core of your offense. Since the damage inflicted by a special attack depends on the number of HITs, you can see that characters with high attack strength should be positioned at the end of a combination. You might think I'm exaggerating, but comparing the damage inflicted by a normal attack looks like a miscalculation next to the damage inflicted by a special attack. The second way to fight is to build up experience points. If you don't use your head you won't become more skilled. So, basically you want to build up hit numbers using the characters that have high hit-rates, while scoring mid-air combos. The questions then becomes one of how to go about quickly building up HIT numbers？ Because you can't get Magic Crystals or Purple Gems with special attacks. The third way to fight is to restore CT. While your attack should be aimed at taking the enemy out, have you sensed that timing is a bit on the tricky side？ Ideally, you would think that you could parcel out Purple Gems to restore CT while continuing a special attack and then you could use the special attack all the time.
